Headcollar snap hook: repair instead of replacing everything

This horse headcollar snap hook is sold separately to replace a worn fitting or complete a Smart Wag headcollar. Keep the parts that remain in good condition. The anatomical headpiece, throat strap and snap hook form a range of spare parts for repairing your equipment.

Identify your model and its attachment before buying. The table below helps you compare the listed hardware colours.

The original description also suggests a second snap hook on the throat strap for easier grooming. This option still requires a compatible attachment.

Compatibility by headcollar model

To choose your replacement, check the leather opening, ring and attachment system. Matching colours alone are not enough. Send Smart Wag photographs of the attachment to check compatibility before ordering.

All-leather headcollars: Soul, Soul PRO and Exclusif

These models have a throat strap that opens with a snap hook. Also check its leather attachment. Opening the headcollar does not guarantee the same replacement method on every version.

Leather-and-rope headcollars: Cuir et Corde, Neckfit and Pink Edition

Here, Neckfit means the Cuir et Corde model, not Soul NeckFit. Pink Edition is listed with silver-coloured fittings. Replacing the snap hook does not make these headcollars suitable for tying up or transport.

Little foal headcollar

For the Little foal headcollar, compare the original fitting and its attachments. Do not infer compatibility from an adult headcollar. Send Smart Wag a photograph before choosing your replacement.

Gold or silver: match your headcollar’s fittings

Match the colour of the original buckles for a consistent finish after repair. Gold and silver describe the offered colours, not certified materials or strength ratings.

How to tell when your snap hook needs replacing

Check the spring, closure and body before use. Incomplete closure, unusual play or deformation means the fitting must be taken out of use. Corrosion that affects closure also requires replacement.

The throat strap photograph shows a snap hook held by a buckled leather tab. Identify this attachment on your headcollar: unclipping the hook from the ring does not release it from the leather.

Remove the headcollar from the horse before working. On a detachable buckled tab, the leather must fit the replacement fitting. A stitched attachment needs appropriate work; do not assume that every replacement is tool-free.

Do not cut stitching or force a fitting. After an approved replacement, check closure and leather condition. This snap hook is not presented as a panic-release device.

Complete your tack collection

The replacement anatomical leather headpiece complements this repair system. The replacement leather headcollar throat strap already includes a snap hook and the connecting strap to the noseband. Check these contents before buying an additional hook.

If several parts are damaged, compare our headcollars and lead ropes. To confirm a spare part, contact Smart Wag with the model, size and photographs of its attachments.

Questions about replacing a snap hook

How can I tell if a headcollar snap hook needs replacing?

Replace it if the spring closes poorly, play develops or the body is deformed. Corrosion affecting closure also requires withdrawal. Tool-free replacement depends on the attachment.

Can I replace just the snap hook on a leather headcollar?

Yes, the hook is sold separately. Confirm compatibility with your model and its attachment before buying. Then match its colour to the original fittings.
