What's the advantage of fitting your dog with a personalised collar?
Our friends the dogs, although often faithful, can allow themselves a few solitary walks. To make your reunion easier, a personalised dog collar with a plaque or tag can be used to display your phone number or your dog's name. This makes it much easier for people who come across your dog to contact you.
How do I care for my Smart Wag personalised dog collar?
For a new leather collar:
A new leather still has all its natural moisture and does not need to be rehydrated with glycerine soap.
On the contrary, this cleaning product could alter the colour of leathers with a natural finish (aniline), particularly brown or tan leathers.
But new leather is naturally dry and stiff and needs to be softened before it is used for the first time. You can apply a colourless leather oil to the back and top of the leather with a clean cloth. The oil will penetrate to the heart of the leather to soften it.
If your leather still feels too stiff, do not hesitate to repeat the application until it becomes soft enough.
You can then leave to dry for a day in a temperate and shady place. This will preserve your leather longer and give it a beautiful patina.
For leather that has already been used:
To care for your leather dog collar, first remove dust with a damp sponge. You can then apply a degreasing lotion to thoroughly clean the material. It's important not to feed the leather without first cleaning it properly.
Afterwards, you can coat your collar with leather oil or grease, which will make the leather supple again.
Important note: It is important to allow the leather to dry thoroughly at room temperature before applying an oil. After each step, avoid leaving your leather to dry in direct sunlight, as this may cook the leather and damage it.
